Your first 100 days
Your onboarding process
Once you decide to work together, we turn what matters to you into a coordinated retirement plan. These five stages describe the flow, not a fixed meeting schedule. A stage may take more than one meeting, and we may revisit or overlap stages as your circumstances require. Your first 100 days provide a starting framework; timing and priorities depend on the complexity of your situation.
What Matters to You
Start with the life you want your money to support. Guided deep discovery explores your goals, values, beliefs and priorities, and the tradeoffs you are willing to make.
See the Big Picture
Bring together your income, spending, savings, investments, taxes, insurance, and estate arrangements. We assess where you stand, identify gaps, and establish a starting point for the decisions ahead.
Explore Your Options
Work backward from the life you want. Compare retirement dates, spending, savings and investments, and stress-test market declines, inflation and longevity. We review assumptions and tradeoffs; modeling explores possibilities, not a guaranteed date.
Give Every Dollar a Job
Organize your portfolio around Cash, Income, and Growth. We connect your income sources and planned withdrawals into a retirement paycheck, with attention to taxes, accessible reserves, and the risk you can afford to take.
Put Your Plan into Action
Agree on the next actions, who is responsible, and the order of priorities. Doug implements the portfolio within your agreed discretionary strategy. Other actions may include account setup or transfers, income arrangements, tax coordination, insurance and care planning, and beneficiary or estate updates with your attorney.
Taxes, risk, care, and legacy are considered throughout. Time-sensitive priorities can be addressed before every stage is complete.

A plan that keeps moving with your life.
Onboarding establishes the starting plan. From there, we review and refine it as your goals, family responsibilities, income, and spending change. We monitor the factors that affect it—including inflation, tax rules, and investment results—and revisit the assumptions and decisions that need attention. You do not need to restart every stage; we focus on what has changed and what matters next.

Frequently asked questions
What to expect from the relationship.
Who do you work with?
People within 10 years of making work optional—or wanting to build that freedom sooner, single or partnered. We are based in Parker, Colorado, in the Denver metro area, and meet with clients virtually in states where the firm and its investment adviser representatives are registered or exempt from registration. The firm maintains a minimum account size of $250,000, which may be waived or reduced at the firm’s discretion.
What does the advisory fee cover?
A written retirement plan; income planning and monthly transfers; portfolio management and rebalancing; tax planning that models financial alternatives, tax-efficient account and investment placement, and withdrawal timing; planning for care and family; help with big money decisions; and regular meetings and plan updates. Your independent tax professional determines transaction tax treatment and gives tax advice. Financial Thinking Partner does not prepare tax returns or provide accounting or legal services.
Who makes the decisions?
You share your priorities, questions, and life changes. Doug recommends a course and explains the tradeoffs. Within the discretionary investment strategy you agree on, Doug oversees allocation, implementation, risk, rebalancing, and routine trades without asking you to approve every routine trade.
How often will we meet?
We meet at least twice a year, in spring and fall, with quarterly check-ins between planning meetings. You can also reach out by text, phone, or email when a question or life change comes up.
What happens before I decide?
Start with a 30-minute introductory call. If there is mutual fit, guided discovery preparation leads to a 60-minute discovery meeting exploring goals, values, beliefs, priorities and practical tradeoffs. Then you have time to reflect before deciding whether to join. No pressure and no unwanted follow-up.
How many onboarding meetings will I need?
There is no fixed number. A stage may take more than one meeting, and stages may overlap or be revisited depending on your priorities and the complexity of your situation.
Does onboarding have to be completed in 100 days?
No. Your first 100 days provide a starting framework, not a deadline. Timing and priorities depend on the complexity of your situation, and time-sensitive needs can be addressed first.
